How to Keep Your "A" Players: Tip #1

Attracting and retaining talent is the name of the game for sustained financial success in business. This said, it’s so challenging that many entrepreneur leaders decide not to scale up at all.

They decide that staying small is simpler and more doable with less headaches, and there isn’t a thing wrong with that business model. If you can pay your bills with some money left over for having fun, then you’ve achieved one of the four major sources of happiness.

If you do decide to scale up, however, first you’ve got to add the right people to your team. Then you’ve got to keep them on board long enough to make a profit.

The most important part of this journey is your mindset, especially concerning risk and reward. Yes, you’re the entrepreneur that’s taking the big risks, so you deserve the big rewards. That’s a no brainer, but keep in mind that your team members are also taking a big risk by trusting your leadership skills to achieve their own goals for themselves and their families.

Given this shared risk, it only makes sense to treat your team members like partners rather than minions who do your bidding. Consideration, or caring about the people who follow you, is the number one predictor of leadership success, and this is the mindset that actualizes consideration and achieves an engaged and inspired team.

Stay tuned for specific techniques to retain your “A” Players.
