The Perfect Restaurant

As a former waiter myself I pay particular attention to my restaurant experiences. I’m paying money to have a good time, so I want to make sure that I have a good time.
For example, I’m very particular about where I’m seated. Oh sure, I know the host or hostess is seating people in rotating sections so as not to overload any waiter with too many tables at one time. I also know that someone is going to sit at the table right in front of the swinging door to the kitchen. Their evening will be constantly interrupted by the sights and sounds of food preparation—but that won’t be me.
We recently had the great pleasure of eating at one of our favorite restaurants. As always, the experience was perfect. Why, and what can your business learn from our perfect experience?
1. Quality of the product. The food was perfectly prepared and delicious.
2. Consistency. We often order the same thing, and the quality is top notch every time. Standardized policies and procedures are clearly in place.
3. Responsiveness. This restaurant is almost always busy, but the service is always quick and responsive. You’re usually hungry when you go out to eat, and sitting there wishing you had some food or filling up on bread and butter isn’t my idea of a good time.
4. Quality of the team. We interact mostly with the wait staff, and we’ve been seeing the same waiters there for twenty years. We know them by name. In an industry notorious for turnover, this is extraordinary. These are professionals who get the job done in a friendly and efficient manner without being intrusive.
5. Customer experience. In addition to everything else, the trappings and location of the restaurant are extraordinary. The furniture and decorations are perfect for the concept, and the view while dining is wonderful and uplifting.
How would your customers describe working with your business? Would they brag on you like I just bragged on this restaurant? If not, what changes do you need to make?
