International Self-Care Day

Yesterday, Thursday July 24 was International Self-Care Day. Who knew? I meant to publish this article yesterday, but self-care issues prevented it, i.e. I had three client crises on that day.
Your relationship with yourself is the most important relationship you’ll ever have. You’re with yourself 24/7, and how you treat yourself is the single most important determinant of your success and happiness.
If you’re constantly criticizing yourself and telling yourself that you’re “not good enough,” then I guarantee you’ll feel bad and be less happy. If you congratulate yourself on who you are and encourage yourself to go after what you really want, then I guarantee you’ll feel good and be happier.
So how are you treating your 6-year-old emotional self? Would you yell at a 6-year-old child all day? If you did, how do you think they’d feel by the end of the day?
As a leader, if you don’t take good care of yourself, then you won’t be able to take good care of your team to get their best work. Some thoughts to consider:
· You can’t pour from an empty cup.
· Put on your oxygen mask before you try to help others.
· No need to be a “servant” leader and put others’ needs before yours. Instead, be a caring leader for everyone, including you.
· A good leader is like a good parent who looks out for the welfare of the whole family.
· Yes, sometimes you need to put others’ needs first for a while, but doing that over the long term is unsustainable.
So, how good is the most important relationship of your life?
